I wish to share one interesting anecdote from the life of Acharya Vinibha Bhaveji suggesting the easiest way to stop drinking. One day, the great scholar Vinobha Shave was relaxing in his ashram. A man came rushing into his room and asked him how to Get Rid of Alcohol Immediately?.

How to Get Rid of Alcohol Immediately?

“Acharya Ji, please help me. I need your support at this moment,” the man said in a disturbed voice.

“What’s the matter? Why are you looking so worried?” Acharya asked.

“I am addicted to alcohol. I cannot go through a single day without drinking. The habit has just caught me completely. Please help me!” the man said.

Acharyaji had a close look at the man and said, “Don’t worry. Come again tomorrow.”

“Make sure you call out my name from the gate once you visit the ashram. I’ll give you a solution to your problem.” Next day, the man visited the ashram again.

“Acharyaji! Acharyaji!” he called out from the gate.

No one answered.

“Acharyaji must not have heard me!” he thought and called out once again. This time, he shouted aloud.

No one answered. He again called out.

“Acharyaji! Acharyaji….”

“I am coming! Wait for some time,” Acharyaji answered.

The man heaved a sigh of relief and waited happily. However, when Acharyaji did not come out, he got restless once again.

“Acharyaji! Why aren’t you coming out?” he asked reluctantly.

“I’m trying my best. But this pole it has held me tight. I am not able to free myself from its clutches,” he said.

The man was surprised to hear this.

“How can a lifeless object catch hold of Acharyaji?” he thought.

“What are you talking about, Acharyaji?” he asked.

“I’m serious my child! This pole as just caught me. It just doesn’t let me go,” Acharyaji explained.

“But Acharyaji, how can a lifeless object hold you as a captive?” the man asked.

“Don’t you trust my words?” Acharyaji shouted angrily. “Come inside and see for yourself.”

The man rushed inside to see what the matter was. He saw Acharyaji holding the pole tightly and pretending to release himself. The man laughed aloud.

“Acharyaji! You have a great sense of humor!” the man said and laughed again.

“What do you mean?” Acharya Ji asked.

“You have caught hold of the pole yourself. The pole has no role to play in this,” he explained.

“Is that so?” Acharya asked.

“Please release your hands and leave the pole. Only you can get out of this situation if you really wish to,” the man said.

Acharyaji smiled and left the pole. He took his seat and smiled again. The man sat in front of the saint with folded hands and placed his request again.

“Acharyaji, will you please solve my problem?” he said.

“I just did!” Acharya said, and smiled.

“When?” asked the man.

“My boy, just as it was me who clung on to the pole and only I could have left it, nobody but you can get rid of your addiction,” Acharyaji explained.

The man sat still with his eyes wide open and jaw-dropping downwards.

”Alcohol is lifeless. It cannot captivate you. You have been clinging on to it for so many years. Just leave it and set yourself free. Live a happy and healthy life,” Acharyaji said.

The man touched Acharyaji’s feet and vowed never to touch alcohol again in his life.

Moral of the Story:

• Vices can never captivate a man. All vices and bad habits are a result of our own actions.

• Giving up on bad habits is easy, once you decide to do so.

• Leaving a bad habit is easier if you make dedicated attempts.
