Covid-19 vaccine for every Indian above 18 years from May 1: How to register, book appointment and download vaccine certificate online

The government announced that all Indian citizens above the age of 18 years can now get the Covid-19 vaccine in India starting May 1, 2021. The entire Covid-19 vaccination drive in India is digital starting from the registration process to getting vaccinated. Here’s a detailed step-by-step process to get Covid-19 which includes registering for the vaccine online, scheduling an appointment, and downloading the vaccine certificate.

Note: Due to the huge demand for vaccines, it may not be easy to get a slot. But your chances are likely to be better with an appointment booked than in walk-in.

Before registering for Covid-19 vaccination online you need to have these
There’s no app for the Covid-19 vaccine. You would need a PC with working internet or use any internet browser on your mobiles like Google Chrome or Safari. You would need a working mobile number and photo ID proof like an Aadhaar card, Driving License, etc.

Covid-19 vaccine registration online: How to do it
You can register for the Covid-19 vaccine by logging on to “www.cowin.gov.in”’. Enter your mobile number to receive OTP for verification via SMS. Click on the ‘Verify’ button to complete the registration process.

Covid-19 vaccine confirmation online: How to confirm your vaccine registration
After registering on the Cowin website, a new ‘Registration of Vaccination’ page will appear. Enter details like Photo ID type, Photo ID Proof number, name, date of birth, gender, and other details. Then click on the Register button. You will receive the necessary details regarding vaccination via an SMS. Check the details properly. You will get a Beneficiary Reference ID at the time of registering for the vaccine, save this ID.

Up to 3 more people with the same mobile number can register for the Covid-19 vaccine
You can add 3 more people linked to the same account on the Cowin website. To do this, click the ‘Add More’ button at the bottom right side of the Account Details page. You will need to enter similar details for other people to register them for vaccination.

Where to get vaccinated: How to find the nearest Covid-19 vaccination center online
On any web browser, visit www.cowin.gov.in. Scroll down and you will see a Map and dialogue box that reads ‘Enter place/address/eLoc’. Enter location details and hit the Go button.

Deciding the date of Covid-19 vaccine: How to schedule an appointment online
You can schedule an Appointment from the Account Details page on the Cowin website. Click on the Calendar icon placed in front of each registered user or directly click on the Schedule Appointment button. You will get redirected to Book Appointment for Vaccination page. On this page, search the vaccination center of choice by State, District, Block, and Pin code.

Click on the Center name and it will show available slots (date and capacity). Then click on the Book button and after that, a new ‘Appointment Confirmation page will appear. Check all the details properly and click the Confirm button.

What to do after you get Covid-19 vaccine: How to download Covid-19 vaccine certificate online
You can only download the vaccination certificate after you have got the first vaccine shot. The certificate will contain Name, date of birth, Beneficiary Reference ID, Photo ID, vaccine name, hospital name, date, and other details. Note that Beneficiary Reference ID is very important for getting the certificate.

Where to go to get the Covid-19 vaccination certificate
You can download the vaccination certificate from the Co-WIN portal (cowin.gov.in) or the Aarogya Setu app or through Digi-Locker. You may do so by using the mobile number used at the time of registration.

How to get a Covid-19 vaccine certificate from the Aarogya Setu app
Use the same mobile number on the Aarogya Setu app that was used during vaccine registration. Make sure you get the latest version of the Aarogya Setu app. Open the app and tap on the Cowin tab. Tap on the Vaccination Certificate option. Enter your Beneficiary Reference ID and tap on the ‘Get Certificate’ button.

How to get a Covid-19 vaccine certificate from the Cowin website
Visit the ‘https://selfregistration.cowin.gov.in/vaccination-certificate’ website using any web browser. Enter Beneficiary Reference ID and click the Search button to download the certificate.
